| Short description: | Agriculture is key to many of the most important issues in today's world. Topics like GM (genetic modification), the environment, biotechnology, genetics, plant and animal breeding, seed production, machinery, crop production, economics etc. are all closely connected to agriculture. It's an interdisciplinary subject, asking students to understand aspects of biology, chemistry, economics, environmental science and business studies. |
| Full description: | Each lesson consists of an Introduction, Vocabulary Section, Reading, Grammar Section, and an Assignment. The Reading and Grammar sections also include practice exercises. Vocabulary: a wide range of activities to develop students' knowledge and use of key vocabulary, both in the field of agribusiness and agriculture and of academic study in general. *Vocabulary and Skills banks: a reference source to provide students with revision of the key words and phrases and skills presented in each unit. *Full transcripts of all listening exercises. The English for Specific Academic Purposes series covers a range of academic subjects (farm buildings, agricultural machinery, plant and animal products, soil, water, seeds, plant growth, harvest, housing animals, storage, feed and nutrients, breeding aspects, slaughter and processing, cultivation and planting equipment, harvest equipment etc.). All titles present the same skills and vocabulary points. Teachers can therefore deal with a range of ESAP courses at the same time, knowing that each subject title will focus on the same key skills and follow the same structure. Key Features: systematic approach to developing academic skills through relevant content, focus on receptive skills (reading and listening) to activate productive skills (writing and speaking) in subject area. |

| Learning outcomes: | Learning outcomes In terms of knowledge: 1. The participant of the course will have knowledge about specific English vocabulary: a wide range of activities, including speaking, listening, reading and writing skills to develop students' knowledge and use of key vocabulary, both in the field of agribusiness and agriculture. 2. The student will have an extended knowledge of multipurpose usage of English language. 3. The student will know the specific English language and will be aware of its meaning. In terms of skills: 1. Student acquires specific English vocabulary from literature, specific English books, encyclopedias connected with agriculture, crop production, agricultural chemistry 2. Is able to use specific language data basis and can make some conclusions. In terms of social competences: 1. Student is aware of the importance and responsibility for English skills, is able to communicate without any barriers with foreign farmers, scientists in the field of agribusiness and agriculture, to understands the meaning of oral skills in contemporary world. 2. The participant of the course is aware of the influence of foreign language in branch of agriculture to make some business transactions with foreign companies, has the need to improve professional language competences, is responsible for their own and team work (dialogues in pairs, open discussion). |
| Assessment methods and assessment criteria: | Grade obtained at classes (60%) + grade obtained at lectures (40%). |
